The Manta exhaust for the VQ, VR and VS Statesman and Caprice, offers significant improvements in power and sound over the stock exhaust system. The fuel injected, Australian made 304ci/5.0L V8 used in these cars made up to 168kw, and this figure can be further enhanced through the fitment of a set of high flowing extractors, a 200 cell catalytic converter, and a mandrel bent cat-back exhaust.
There are a number of options available, in either aluminised steel, or stainless steel for maximum longevity. The 2.5″ is ideal if you are looking for a better sounding replacement for your stock exhaust, while the 3″ is ideal if you are looking at running other performance modifications such as a cold air induction. The dual 2.5″ system is perfect if you are looking to do serious engine modifications, and achieve large power gains. It also gives the best sounding exhaust note, sounding a lot deeper due to the twin pipe setup. For maximum performance, the full system including extractors should be fitted. If you already have extractors, or are just looking for improved sound, the cat-back is also a fantastic option.

The 5.7L LS1 V8 introduced in the VT Series 2 Commodore, and found in the WH Statesman and Caprice, was the first of a long line of American built Chevy V8’s to be fitted to the Commodore family. Initially producing 230kw, the motor was greatly restricted by the stock exhaust system, which also gave the Commodore a somewhat muted exhaust note. By fitting a Manta exhaust system, the true character of the GenIII V8 can be released, together with extra power, torque and responsiveness.
There are a number of options to suit all requirements, tastes, and budgets. The 5.7L Stroker V8 motor found in some HSV’s utilised two catalytic converters in its exhaust system. This was different to anything seen before in the Commodore and Statesman line-up, which had up to that point used only one catalytic converter. The full twin cat exhaust system with extractors can be fitted to any VQ – VS 5.0L Statesman for enhanced sound and power when compared to the regular, single cat exhaust.
The 2.5″ dual system is adequate for most applications, with a number of options depending on what noise level you’re chasing.
